Our wonderful web guy, Ken, has been working long hours to get this new site up. In the meantime, we’ve received a couple of questions about Podcamp NYC 2.0, the change in dates and what’s different this year, so I thought I’d do a quick post to explain how we’ve set things up.
Registration- We’re using Eventbrite for registration this year. It’s easy, and less intimidating for those who aren’t comfortable with wikis. We have two types of “tickets”- one for attendees and one for speakers. This was done just so we have a way of contacting speakers separately, to let them know logistics details as the event comes together.
By going to the eventbrite page, you can see who else has signed up so far, and who’s signed up to present, all on one list. We’ll start a separate page for presentations soon, as more begin rolling in.
Why the change in date? We decided to move Podcamp NYC to April 25 & 26 rather than the original dates for a couple of reasons, including less chance of this crazy winter weather this year impacting the event, and to take advantage of the great outdoor space at Polytechnic University, as well as to give us organizers some more time to make the event special. We want to have the best event possible, and this was a date that worked better for us and worked for our venue as well.
Theme- This year, we want Podcamp NYC 2.0 to focus on education and making a difference in our community. We’d like to encourage everyone to bring a friend, invite teachers and educators, and make Podcamp NYC about bringing the new media tools to life for those who might not know what “all of this” is about. Let’s try to imagine what a School of the Future might look like, and how we can redesign education to meet the needs of a more connected world. We’re hoping to have this as a separate track at podcamp NYC, in addition to the great presentations we have on subjects ranging from “How to’s” to marketing, to using social media for personal and business purposes.
Hotel Information: We are currently working on this right now, and hope to have some information to you by February 1.
