Updates and Info

Hi Everyone!  Due to an overwhelming response, we’ve had to close regiatration.  If you are on the wait list, you have been cleared to attend- please come on down!  If we haven’t spoken directly, there won’t be any more exceptions at this point (We have to comply with those pesky insurance clauses and fire safety codes…)

Please look in your email for more specific information from us within the next 24 hours.

Please also keep in mind that if you are not able to attend, letting us know means someone else may be able to come in your place- please help a fellow camper out and let us know if you can’t make it.

Please check out the Guide, the FAQ pages on this site and the wiki for any questions that might arise.

And, I’ll see you in NY!

The Guide to Podcamp NYC

Hi Guys!

Kristen Crusius, a.k.a. Kroosh, has done a bang up job at getting this Guide to Podcamp NYC 2.0

ready for everyone.  The Guide is sponsored by our good friends over at Red Lasso, and includes a session schedule, a guide to Dining in the Brooklyn Poly area (put together by Mark Tafoya and Jennifer Iannolo from the Culinary Media Network), and we hope you find it helpful.

Keep in mind that due to last minute issues, the session schedule may alter slightly between now and the time of the event, so keep your eyes peeled for the latest updates by checking the links we posted earlier here and on the wiki.

You will also be getting some emails from us over the next few days with info and FAQ, so check your email for that information as it becomes available.

Podcamp NYC Schedule

Here is the Podcamp NYC Schedule- it is subject to change, so keep tuned to this station!

You Never Know Until You Ask….

As some of you might know, I am an avid reader, and one of my favorite books lately is “The Pirate’s Dilemma- How Youth Culture is Reinventing Capitalism” by Matt Mason.  It’s a great book that speaks to many things we talk about in New Media, ranging from disruption of the status quo to DIY to finding the elusive gold at the end of the rainbow.  I was writing about “Podcamp and Pirates” over on my personal blog, and was linking to Matt Mason’s page, when I discovered he lives in Brooklyn.  A quick exchange of emails later, and Matt is going to come and speak at Podcamp NYC!

We have a really great line-up of sessions for Podcamp NYC this year, and many fantastic speakers.  We don’t do keynotes per se, or really single out any one person over another as a rule, but I just had to say how excited I am that one of my favorite authors is coming to be a part of Podcamp, and how great it is that social media works- you can contact someone you’ve never met before, and before you know it, they can become part of the community.

We Love Our Sponsors- Year After Year

So I thought it was important to mention the fact that a number of our sponsors were folks who were also involved last year.  Doug Kersten of PodGlo for instance, was with us last year at the New Yorker hotel and has been a huge supporter of the NYC Podcasting community for years.  Hes also been very supportive of PodCampNYC by letting me and others talk about both last and this years events at the NYC Podcasting Association meetup group hes in charge of.

I also wanted to mention blip.tv.  They were one of our earliest sponsors this year, and last year helped us out by sponsoring an after-party.  Ive known Dina for a number of years and am always amazed at how eloquent she is at describing the value of new media in general and the great video producers she and blip.tv support/enable.  I also interviewed her via our PodCampNYC podcast that you can hear here: http://www.blogtalkradio.com/PodCampNYC/2008/02/19/Interview-with-Dina-Kaplan-of-bliptv.

Please notewe love ALL our sponsors.  Plus I did not mention all of the folks who sponsored last year who also are onboard this year (like Podango, Magnify, Bill Sobel, Imprint Alliance, Podcast Ready, Jason Van Orden, Morpheus Media, the Harbrooke Group and Vigor Interactive Branding).  But my point here is to say a big whopping GRACIAS to the folks who make Podcamps of all shapes and sizes possible year after year.

Please give them (and our new beloved sponsors) the link love and attention they deserve.

Sincerely,

John C. Havens

Lead Organizer,

PodCampNYC

Speaker Spots are Re-Opening

We have some extra room on our schedule, thankfully!  So all of those still interested in presenting at Podcamp NYC, please drop me an email at pcnyc2@gmail.com.  Speakers will be accommodated on a first Come, First Served basis

(we may also need to adjust your eventbrite registration to reflect “speaker”- thanks for your patience!)

Planning for Podcamp-Where to Eat In Brooklyn

Since Podcamp is a free conference, and since the attendee list is now well over 700, everyone will have to be in charge of their own lunch and dinner. While the cafeteria at Poly will be open during Podcamp, this may not be everybody’s idea of a perfect lunch or dinner spot. We’re in New York, right? Restaurant Capital of the World? But where should you go, and what’s close by?

Our very good friends, Mark Tafoya and Jennifer Iannolo from the Culinary Media Network, along with Julian Brizzi, put together this great guide to food options near Polytechnic University, where Podcamp will be held. The list is divided up into categories, ranging from fine dining to fast food to ethnic eateries. They’ve also included web site addresses and phone numbers for your convenience, so you might think about grabbing a reservation for dinner, Friday or Saturday night in advance- just make sure to reserve a big table so all of your new friends from Podcamp can join you!

Thanks again to Chef Mark and Jen for all their help!

Blogger & Podcast Magazine Offer- Advertise Your Blog or Podcast in USA Today!

Larry Genkin and the rest of the great folks over at Blogger & Podcaster Magazine have been great supporters of Podcamp, and are continuing that tradition with Podcamp NYC.  There’s a great interview lead organizer of Podcamp NYC, John Havens, did the CEO of Larstan Publishing, Larry Genkin, over at Blog Talk Radio you should check out- some exciting news about how Blogger and Podcaster is seeking to help bloggers and podcasters make some money through their content.

Blogger & Podcaster are also extending a special offer to attendees of Podcamp NYC 2.0- an opportunity to get directly to the mainstream audience who reads USA Today or visits their website!

Larry says:

I’m writing today with some exciting news that will enable you to promote your blog or podcast to a large mainstream consumer audience more cost effectively than ever before.  Here are the details:

Back in December Blogger & Podcaster Magazine teamed up with USA TODAY to launch The Blogger & Podcaster Guide (think TV Guide for blogs/podcasts to a mainstream audience). I’m excited to announce that effective immediately, USA TODAY has given us permission to reduce the price from $49.95 per month (a bargain by USA TODAY standards) to just $5 per month. It is our hope that this new price point will make The Blogger & Podcaster Guide accessible for everyone. (If youre already a customer of the guide no worries, the new pricing will happen automatically at your next billing cycle. You don’t need to do anything.)

However, as they say in infomercials, “that’s not all”..

To further drive traffic into the Blogger & Podcaster Guide, in addition to our franchise spot on the home page of USA TODAY.com (visited by over 10,000,000 daily), USA TODAY is now going to be giving us 2,000,000 premium placed advertisements (leader boards, skyscrapers etc.) each month. That equates to just shy of 67,000 ads per day. Were going to be all over USATODAY.com.

Perhaps most significantly of all, USA TODAY has given us permission to work with other media partners beyond themselves. This selfless act on their part has allowed me to work out partnerships with 15 additional magazines/publishers. The USA TODAY and ALL of the new publications are included at no additional charge to you-just $5 per month for them ALL. Plus, I’m having conversations many other publishers and expect to add new ones to our network every month. You can keep tabs on the complete list to date at www.bloggerandpodcaster.com/register.

Instead of waiting for the mainstream to find us, together we’re bringing blogs and podcasts to the mainstream. This should be good for your blog/podcast and our industry as a whole. Help spread the word!

I should disclose that I have taken advantage of this offer myself, and it has been driving traffic to my site and podcast, so I am pleased with the service.

If you aren’t familiar with Blogger & Podcaster Magazine, be sure to sign in early at Podcamp and pick up a free copy of the magazine at registration.
